Fil-Am television and movie actor Sean Michael Afable (“Akeelah and the Bee”) will be co-hosting the 47th annual Los Angeles County Celebration, a free public event that honors the spirit of many cultures and holiday traditions through spectacular music, songs and dances. The event is L.A. County’s biggest holiday show featuring more than 45 musical ensembles, choirs, and dance companies, about 1,500 performers in all, expressing the joy of the season – and it is FREE to the public.
Sean Michael Afable will be onstage between 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. He will be co-hosting with celebrities: Sheryl Lee Ralph (original Broadway cast of Dreamgirls, To Sleep with Anger) - onstage from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m.; Sandra Tsing Loh (“The Loh Life” on NPR, Sugar Plum Fairy on the stage) – between 4:00 to 5:00 p.m.; Charles Phoenix (Histo-tainer, Retro Slide Shows) from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.; Jsu Garcia (Nightmare on Elm Street, Traffic) from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.; and Fred Willard (For Your Consideration, Best in Show, This is Spinal Tap) between 8:00 to 9:00 p.m. Special performers are two alumni from American Idol: Amanda Avila and Jon Peter Lewis (performing between 5:00 to 6:00 p.m.).
The annual multi-cultural holiday celebration takes place every December 24th from 3 to 9 pm at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion at the Music Center in downtown, Los Angeles (address is 135 N. Grand Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90012, on Grand and Temple St.). Doors will open at 2:30 p.m. The stage production is being broadcast live on KCET in high definition (a Jumbotron screen is being installed on the Music Center plaza for those waiting to get in), and an annual one-hour highlight broadcast is carried nationally on PBS.
The Holiday Celebration, which reflects the vibrant spectrum of cultures found in Southern California, is L.A. County’s yearly gift to Los Angeles. Patrons may come and go throughout the performance. Admission to Music Center is FREE as well as the Parking (under the Music Center). Those who can’t make it to the Music Center can watch the live broadcast of Holiday Celebration on KCET.
